I booked for 19 days so was looking for somewhere that balanced a good rating with value for money; I took a punt with Bali Asli Lodge and was well rewarded. The room was very clean and it was easy to stay cool in the heat with the big overhead fan. The floor of the shower is filled with large smooth pebbles which was definitely novel. The place was actually filled with nice small touches like this, which the photos don't really do justice to; the walkway in goes over a small pond with fish swimming in it, which was not the worst way to start days or end them. Bali Asli Lodge backs onto a small creek as well, with some foliage between you and it, so you get the sound of running water and bird/insect song from the balcony. Ketut, Made, Alit and Wayan are super friendly and helpful, and will sort you out for anything from morning coffee to your laundry; take Ketut up on the rice paddy walk option, you will see and learn a lot about the local area you would not otherwise. There was no bar fridge in the room, which might be an initial cause of consternation for travelers usually used to them, but cold drinks are kept in the fridge at reception and they will bring them down to you if you message them on whatsapp. Bali Asli Lodge is a 10 minute walk up a hill from the main strip, which can be a drag at the end of a day of walking around, but if you hire a scooter you can tear that up in about a minute. There is also a shortcut through the massive bamboo forest at the end of the laneway, which has monkeys playing around in the higher branches at certain times of the day. I saw fireflies in there on my last day as well.

My mom and I stayed here for 4 nights when we arrived into Bali. The property contacted me through booking.com and offered a transfer from the airport for 450,000 which is about €25 so we took this option. Which made it very easy and stress free to get to the accommodation. Throughout our stay the family were so friendly and accommodating and made us feel a part of the family. The room was just like the photos and had a balcony overlooking the jungle. We spent a day with Ketut, who is the father of Alid. He took us on a tour around Ubud and we did many activities, I would highly recommend this experience. That morning we had asked Made and Alid if we could have dinner that evening, so we came back from the trip to a lovely dinner which was so cheap and really good authentic Balinese food. We also went to see the fire dance in their local temple. You can buy your tickets directly from them and Ketut takes part in the performance which was lovely to watch. They even organised our booking to get a transfer from the accommodation to the fast boat which included the actual fast boat ticket to the Gili islands. Everything was made very easy and stress free and they are an amazing family

I loved this homestay lodge. Alit is extremely welcoming and warm hearted. As her family resides there, the lodge had a very safe, warm and community feel to the whole space, which I loved especially because I travelled solo. The room was very clean and has everything you need. The rooms backdrop is nature, so people can also enjoy sitting out on the patio relaxing. The most cutest doggies and the beautiful bright and friendly kids running around topped it off for me also. I highly recommend this homestay. There are also some awesome cafe restaurants within a very close walking distance which I thoroughly enjoyed. Some mornings, the lovely ladies provided me with coffee and breakfast which was delicious and a more convenient choice some mornings too.

Amazing homestay in walking distance of the Ubud palace! Ketut and Made are very welcoming and helpful. Ketut took us on a great tour of surrounding sights and explained local customs on the way. The banana pancakes for breakfast are delicious and also available vegan on request. The room has an incredible view of the jungle, so you shouldn't be afraid of geckos. Several roosters live nearby and start your day early, but that seems to be normal around here. Laundry service, dinner and massages are also available at fair prices. We had a great time, thank you!

The rooms were very nicely decorated in Balinese style and the location of our rooms was amazing with a view directly to the jungle, which was only just a few metres away! A beautiful wakening with all the colours and sounds of nature! We had a few roosters in the morning passing by and geckos making funny sounds at night. The house and its setting are very nice, but the humidity is so high that our towels or clothes could never dry unless left in the sun during the day. It's a particular experience and it's worth it for at least 3 or 4 days.
